Mexican orchids at risk

A searchable working list of Orchidaceae taxa included in Mexico's NOM-059 risk categories. This page is the first layer of Orchidarc's long-term conservation assessment resource for Mexican orchids.

This is a first-pass digital resource compiled from the NOM-059 orchid list supplied to Orchidarc and cross-referenced with CONABIO W029 orchid fichas where available. It is not yet a formal IUCN Red List assessment.

Why this page exists

Mexico has an exceptional orchid flora, including many endemic, range-restricted and culturally important species. Yet conservation information is fragmented across legal lists, technical fichas, herbarium records and field knowledge. Orchidarc is building this page as a public entry point into those data.

Long-term vision

Our goal is to develop transparent, evidence-based species accounts that can support formal IUCN Red List assessments, Mexican conservation planning, habitat protection, field surveys and community education.

Assessment workflow

  • Verify current taxonomy and synonyms.
  • Compile georeferenced records and literature.
  • Estimate EOO and AOO where possible.
  • Document threats, trade pressure and habitat condition.
  • Prepare candidate IUCN assessment drafts.

Data caution

NOM-059 categories and taxonomy require periodic review. Some names in the source list have changed, and some W029 technical fichas predate current taxonomic treatments. This page will be revised as Orchidarc adds verified species accounts.
